Meet Wilco
Have you met Wilco the WACO Wise Owl?
Wilco is WACO’s winged ambassador - flying around Washington state to help local county officials who are hard at work serving their counties and communities. Wilco’s biggest job is to help introduce the public at large to the many ways that Washington’s county officials are serving them.

This week, Wilco dropped by Kittitas County and spent a few days helping the Kittitas County Treasurer’s Office!

The Kittitas County Treasurer’s Office was busy-busy this week and took Wilco on a trip to Cle Elum to take tax payments at their Upper County office. Collection of taxes and assessment, along with disbursement of funds, cash and investment management, debt management, and receipting and accounting of revenue, are just a few aspects of the work the treasurer’s office does.

Wilco learned the ins and outs of taking tax payments and worked with Kittitas County’s favorite upper county tax collector, Jenn. The county treasurer holds a key position of public trust in the financial affairs of local government. Acting as the bank for the county, school districts, fire districts, water districts and other units of local government, the treasurer’s office receipts, disburses, invests and accounts for the funds of each of these entities. In addition, the treasurer is charged with the collection of various taxes that benefit a wide range of governmental units. Over sixty percent of the workload of the county treasurer is directed toward providing services to the taxing districts.
