WACO Launches Additional Resources for Newly Elected Officials
Washington Association of County Officials (WACO) is delighted to announce new readily available Newly Elected Officials (NEO) resources. In addition to the NEO Conference hosted by WACO every four years, WACO has launched additional support for our newly elected members. These resources are now hosted on WACO’s website and contain core curriculum for newly elected officials, including information, training, and resources under the following categories:
- Core Legal Guidelines for All County Officials
- Understanding Roles and Responsibilities of County Leaders and How They Related to You
- Your Relationship with the State
- WACO Service Available to You
- Organizations with Resources to Support You in Your New Role
- Affiliate Specific Orientation Materials
Each category contains in-depth resources and training on key topics that can be explored any time, over time. For example, “Core Legal Guidelines for all County Officials” examines the following topics: Basic Duties, Liability and Immunity, Ethics in Public Service, Open Government, Public Records and Transparency, Open Public Meetings and Your County Prosecutor and You.
WACO Executive Director, Jennifer Wallace, stated “Our Newly Elected Officials Conference is a terrific learning and networking opportunity jam-packed with information. Now newly-elected officials can revisit topics covered at NEO and delve deeper into a broad range of issues they will encounter routinely in their new roles.”
