This week is what WACO staff call peak conference season. With no less than three affiliate meetings occurring at any time, our members spent the week training, discussing future legislative initiatives, and electing new officers. And, of course, Wilco the WACO Wise Owl was on hand!
The Clerks met in San Juan County in Friday Harbor for a four-day conference held at Brick Works. The intimate space was a great place for the Clerks to dig into intensive training, debate future priority positions, and welcome newly elected Washington State Association of County Clerks (WSACC) President Melissa Beaton, Skagit County Clerk.

Elsewhere in Chelan, the Prosecutors met for their annual summer training conference and Washington Association of Prosecuting Attorneys (WAPA) business meeting. This Prosecutor annual tradition kicks off not only the summer season at Lake Chelan, but also serves as a vital training opportunity to prosecutor office staff, and an important business meeting for the electeds.
The Washington State Association of County Treasurers (WSACT) also held their annual conference at the beautiful Marcus Whitman hotel and conference center in Walla Walla this past week. WSACT members discussed potential legislative priorities for the 2024 session and hosted numerous educational sessions for Treasurers and staff on key areas of operation, including foreclosure and distraint, sales tax, employee reviews, ethics, banking safeguards, cashflow analysis and current investment environment and strategies. WACO was on hand to record these sessions and will be making them available on the WACO Education Hub. WSACT also received updates from their state partner, the Washington State Department of Revenue.

The 2023 WSACT Conference utilized a new WACO service – WACO’s Training Certification Form! This form is accessed by attendees using a QR code that’s placed on the back of their badge. Attendees then enter their information, any course specific information, confirm they attended the training, and hit submit. Within minutes they are sent a confirmation email that details the training and CPE credits they earned! If you are interested in utilizing WACO’s Training Certification Form for an upcoming training, event, or conference, please email cella@countyofficials.org to coordinate usage.
