During the 2017 state Elections Conference last week at Skamania Lodge, Secretary of State Kim Wyman and state Elections Division Director Lori Augino were on hand to present the state elections awards.
Pierce County Auditor Julie Anderson received the Auditor of the Year award for her efforts to let the public participate in decisions like ballox box locations. "From open houses to community meetings, with the help of her team, she's engaged the public in a new, fresh way," Wyman said of Anderson. "And the key was that she's engaged them from the beginning, not at the end when all the planning is over and the decisions were made!"
Additional awards were presented to King County Director of Elections Julie Wise for Voter Outreach; Mason County Auditor Karen Herr as the Champion for Voters with Disabilities; and the County Election Employee award was awarded to Cowlitz County Elections Manager Carolyn Fundingsland.
Congratulations to each everyone, and thank you for helping run fair and transparent elections!
